    STEM Buddy Project


    Students in Ms. Heaney's kindgergarten class at Brentwood Elementary partnered with their 5th grade buddies in Mrs. Peltz's class for a STEM project.  Their task was to plan and create the tallest tower they could using only plastic straws and a few labels.

    Getting Ready for All Abilities Week!


    Brentwood Elementary is getting ready to celebrate All Abilities Week 2018.  Miss Mara is shown teaching students that we are like pieces of a puzzle.  We all fit together in our own special way.  Ability Awareness Week will be celebrated across the district during the second week of September

    GATE Back to School BBQ


    Our GATE students had a blast at the Back to School BBQ social event on August 22nd at Veteran’s Park.  They got to problem solve while participating in some team building activities, ate yummy BBQ, made new friends, and said hello to old ones.  Way to kick off the 2018-19 school year GATE kids!

    School Safety Symposium

    New Play Equipment at Pioneer


    Brand new all-access playground equipment will be waiting for students at Pioneer Elementary.  Thank you Brentwood voters for helping BUSD ensure every student can enjoy our playgrounds!

    Krey Students in the News!

    Rotary Presents Youth Community Service Award


    Thank you Brentwood Rotary for honoring our students who give back to the community.  An Edna Hill MS student was presented with a special award for her outstanding service!

    Thank You Measure B!


    Thank you voters!  This water fill stations was installed at Edna Hill MS thanks to Measure B!  Cool, filtered water will be waiting for students when they return to school at the end of July.

    Random Acts of Kindness


    The highlight of the day at the district office was a visit from Karissa and Victoria DePaola.  Their sister Lindsey is a survivor of the Route 91 Vegas shooting.  In an effort to take this horrific event and turn it into something positive, they are spreading kindness.  They brought treats and their story to us this afternoon in honor of Sandy Casey, a teacher from Manhattan Beach who tragically did not survive.  Thank you ladies for your kindness and spirit, you made our day!

    How Does Your Garden Grow?


    Mary Casey Black First Grade Owls rocked their 2018 “How Does Your Garden Grow” annual musical performance. We are so grateful for our PTA and parent support in painting our beautiful back drop this year. Gooo Owls!!

    Love Our Libraries - Bucks for Books


    Diane Alexander, Lynne Brown, Lynn Groshong, Pam McReynolds and Michael Bowen were pictured as the Brentwood Library Foundation announced the proceeds of their recent fundraiser, Bucks for Books.  Overall the Foundation raised $7652.99 with half of this money going to support district libraries and the other half to support the new community library opening late summer or early fall.

    Thank You Turkey Trot


    A special thank you to everyone who participated in the Turkey Trot.  Just look at all the fabulous equipment and supplies that were purchased with TT funds!

    RNS 2nd Grade Musical


    Ron Nunn's second graders know that character matters! They performed the musical, "Character Matters" to a packed house with standing room only. The story included some favorite nursery rhyme characters. They did an incredible job of entertaining as well as teaching the audience about making good choices in life.

    MCB American Music Through Time


    Congratulations to the Mary Casey Black Elementary 5th Graders!  They did a fantastic performance of American Music Through Time.

    Brentwood Elementary Kinder Musical


    The kindergarteners at Brentwood Elementary rocked out to their favorite nursery rhymes in their spring musical, "Nursery Rhyme Rock". They were all smiles as they performed for a crowd of cheering fans. Their engaging performance included songs with choreography about seven different nursery rhymes.

    Music in the Parks Festival


    The Bristow Band and Choir both received first place awards with Superior ratings at the Six Flags Music in the Parks Festival last Saturday. They also received the coveted Espirt de Corps Award for the second year in a row, given to the one school that displays the most school spirit and respect for other schools. Congratulations Bristow!

    Diversity Committee Special Presentation


    Japanese Taiko drummers kick off the BUSD Diversity Committee screening of the Japanese internment documentary, "And Then They Came For Us" on May 1st at Edna Hill Middle School.

    MCB's Multicultural Fashion Show



    Mary Casey Black Elementary's  Multicultural Fashion Show was a hit!  Thanks goes to our ELAC parents, Mrs. Ordaz, Mrs. Ornelas, Mrs. Baeza and all of the students and families who shared their culture (and food)!

    This is just an example of materials that have been purchased for the Marsh Creek and Loma Vista Elementary PE programs. All funding for this equipment was due to the generous support of the Turkey Trot!  Thank you to everyone who participated. These funds make a difference for our students!

    First graders from Loma Vista entertained their families and friends by singing many fun songs they have learned through out the year.  Great job little leopards!

    MCB Visits Nail House


    Third graders from Mary Casey Black Elementary stepped back in time at the Nail House historical site today.  In this picture, students are in a school house and are participating in a lesson that would have been taught in the 1800's.

    Bristow Jazz Band Performs with Ron Nunn


    On April 9th, the Bristow Jazz Band performed for Ron Nunn's 5th grade band after school.  After the performance, the Jazz Band joined the 5th graders to play some of their songs with them.  It was a great afternoon!

    Garin All Abilities Week


    Garin Elementary is celebrating Ability Awareness Week.  Through dance, Axis Dance Company taught students that all shapes and forms are beautiful!

    Bristow Choir Performs at Kings Game

    Congratulations to Tamra Golinveaux, 1st grade teacher at Garin Elementary School.  It was recently announced that she is being awarded The Celebrate Literacy Award by the Contra Costa Reading Association!

     

    MCB Performs Brentwood Musical


    Third grade students at Mary Casey Black Elementary sang their hearts out with tunes from "Brentwood Musical".  A special thanks to the staff members and parent volunteers who helped make this event so special.

    Congratulations Wonder League Finalists!


    Congratulations to Sarah Jenkins' Class at Krey!  They have been notified that they have been named as a finalist in the Wonder League Robotics Competition for $5000!  Great job Coyotes!!

    Ron Nunn School STEAM Night


    Over 300 people attended the very first RNS STEAM night!  Presenters included:  Liberty's FFA, Brentwood Police Department, East Contra Costa Fire, Patriot Jets Foundation, Del Sol Energy, Treasure Wine Estates, Berkeley National Lab., Bristow’s Video productions, Bristow’s math department, Bristow’s leadership club, Scientific Jam, Bricks 4 kids, City of Brentwood Waste Water, Rogue Making, Delta Bay Builders, East Bay Parks, The Game Truck, the RNS student council representatives, Mr. Madrid, Mrs. Siemers, Mrs. Gribbs, Mrs. Diaz, Ms. Cruz and all of the teachers who judged the science projects.

    MCB Read Across America


    Students and families enjoyed a wonderful Read Across America Night last Friday.  Many staff members, as well as, Superintendent Dana Eaton joined the fun with reading.

    Brentwood Elementary 2nd Grade Presents


    The second graders from Brentwood Elementary recently performed the multicultural musical "It's a Small World".  The performers learned about countries from all around the world and sang songs in French, Spanish, Swahili, Chinese, and more!

    Inspired To Make a Difference at BMS


    Bristow students were inspired to make a difference in their school by attending Josten's Renaissance Tour "Find Your Grind".

    Parents Learn Technology Skills at MCB

    Close to 30 parents came to Mary Casey Black to learn technology skills during their Bilingual Parent Time.  Amanda Konrad trained them on how to email via School Loop, how to access apps with their student's help on Classlink and how to take practice tests for the SBAC and ELPAC.  Thank you to all who participated.

    Love Our Libraries - Bucks for Books

    Brentwood's new library will be opening this summer!  Here's a way you can help get books for the new Children's sections AND your school library too! Your school will be holding a special fundraiser beginning February 26th through March 16th.  Your generous and kind "Buck" donations will allow us to buy books for both the new Brentwood Library and our school libraries.

     

    50% of the funds raised will go to the schools' libraries and 50% for the Opening Day Book Collection for the children & teen areas of our new library. Checks can be made payable to "The Brentwood Library Foundation" and are tax deductible. Nonprofit tax ID 47-1101372.

    Basketball Season!


    Students from Bristow and Adams Middle Schools enjoyed a recent 7th grade boys basketball game at AMS.

    Eagle Scout Projects at Marsh Creek

    Family STEM Night was organized as an Eagle Scout Project by former Marsh Creek student, Euan McManus.  There were 318 attendees!  In addition, five microscopes and nine "STEM-in-a-Box" kits were donated to Marsh Creek by Declan Tsuyuki as his Eagle Scout Project.  A huge thank you to these young men for their work at Marsh Creek Elementary.


     

    MCB Gold Dust or Bust


    Fourth grade students from Mary Casey Black performed Gold Dust or Bust recently for a packed house.  Great job students!!

    CMEA Honor Band


    Students from Adams, Bristow and Edna Hill Middle Schools were selected to perform in the California Music Educator's Association Bay Section Conference Band, Choir, and Orchestra.  Students performed their concert at Chabot College on January 13th.  Great job!  Students were accompanied by music directors Lindsay Kellogg, Mark Morello and Cheryl Breitenbucher.

    The Bristow Middle School Jazz Band played holiday songs at Westmont of Brentwood. The senior living facility residents enjoyed listening to students play songs like "What a Wonderful World", "Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer", and "Silent Night".

    Geography Bee Winners 2017


    EHMS National Geographic Geography Bee winners for 2017 are…  in third place, on left is Nathaniel Abramzon. The school champion, holding the plaque in center, is Nicolas Brady.  In second place on right is Oliver Lyman.  Nice job Bobcats!     Tobacco Use Prevention Education


    Bristow's TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) Club shared a booth during lunch break which provided information related to the Great American Smokeout.  This is an annual intervention event to encourage individuals to use the date in order to make a plan to quit smoking.

    BMS Advisory Posters


    Bristow's Advisory Classes created a Gratitude Poster as part of their advisory theme this quarter.  The current theme is Sowing the Seeds of Success.

    BMS Field Trip to UC Berkeley


    Bristow's Determination for Success and GATE programs took a recent field trip to UC Berkeley.  Determination for Success is a college prep class at Bristow that integrates motivational speakers and college campus tours into their educational program.

    CLMS Nominees for Educators of the Year

    We are excited to announce that we have three nominees for the California League of Middle Schools Region 4 Educator of the Year! Lisa Kennealy from AMS, Michelle Mendoza from BMS and Frances Prochaska from EHMS will be honored at a special awards dinner in January.  Congratulations Lisa, Michelle and Frances for your amazing work and for this wonderful accomplishment!

    AMS Robotics Team Wins Award


    The Adams Middle School Robotic's Club - Team Pristine won the Core Value award at their first LEGO League Competition over the weekend!  Great job AMS!

    AMS Robotics - Team Botz


    Adams Middle School has two robotics teams.  Team Botz had one of the best robot performance scores at their event.  This is unheard of for a rookie team!  We are very proud of these young team members!  Way to go AMS!

    New Projector at Bristow


    A big thank you to Turkey Trot participants and volunteers!  Bristow Middle School has used their Turkey Trot funds to purchase a new projector to use in the PE Department for group workouts and Gather in the Gym assemblies.

    GATE Ice Cream Social


    The GATE Ice Cream Social was a success!  GATE students from 4th grade through 8th grade mingled with each other, problem solved together, and smiled from ear to ear as they enjoyed some monster sundaes!

    Brentwood Updates

    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING –AWARD OF ENERGY SERVICE CONTRACT UNDER GOVERNMENT CODE SECTIONS 4217.10 – 4217.18

     

    The Brentwood Elementary School District Board of Education shall hold a public hearing on October 24, 2018, for the purpose of taking public comment on, and considering and adopting a resolution making certain findings required for approval of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with GE Solar for the implementation of energy conservation services in accordance with California Government Code Sections 4217.10 through 4217.18, including findings that the cost to District of the PPA will be less than the anticipated marginal cost to the District of thermal, electrical, or other energy that would have been consumed by the District in the absence of the PPA, and to consider approval of the PPA in accordance with the Board’s findings.

    BUSD Budget Focus Group

    The Brentwood Union School District has established a Budget Focus Group made up of representative staff members and parents.  The goal of the group is to study both the short and long-term budget challenges and make recommendations for the Board of Education to consider.

    Citizen's Oversight Committee Agenda

    The next Measure B Citizen's Oversight Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 3:30pm at the District Service Center. 

     

    The district continues to advertise for a Member of Taxpayers association to participate on the on the Citizen's Oversight Committee.  This position will remain open until filled.  You will find the application materials here
